Wildlife Removal

Raccoon Removal in Elizabethtown, KY

Attics, chimneys, and crawl spaces — and between roughly February and May, almost always a mother with a litter, which changes the job completely.

  • Litters located before any sealing
  • Entry repaired to withstand a determined animal
  • Contamination cleanup quoted separately

Why spring raccoon calls are different

A raccoon in your attic in October is a raccoon looking for somewhere warm. A raccoon in your attic in March is almost certainly a female that has chosen your attic as a den site for a litter, and that is a materially different job.

It matters because the standard approach — install a one-way door, let the animal leave, seal behind it — fails badly if there are kits present. The mother goes out, cannot get back to her young, and will do remarkable structural damage trying. Meanwhile the kits are sealed in. Any wildlife company that does not check for young before sealing in spring is going to create that situation eventually.

Raccoons are also, pound for pound, the most destructive animal that gets into a house here. They are strong, dexterous enough to open things, and heavy enough to compress insulation and crack ceiling drywall. Attic damage from a raccoon season is routinely more expensive than the removal.

What points to raccoons

  • Heavy thumping, dragging, or rolling noises overhead — noticeably weightier than squirrels or rodents
  • Vocalisations: chittering, growling, or the distinctive crying of kits, usually in spring
  • Activity concentrated at night, particularly around dusk and just before dawn
  • Large droppings in one concentrated area — raccoons use a latrine site rather than scattering
  • Torn soffit, lifted shingles, damaged roof vents, or a pulled-back fascia board
  • Compressed or disturbed attic insulation, and in bad cases staining on the ceiling below
  • Chimney noise, especially scratching from inside the flue

How the job runs

  1. 1

Inspection, with the season in mind

Establishing the entry point, the extent of the damage, and critically whether there are young present. In spring that determines everything about sequencing.

  2. 2

Handling the litter, if there is one

Kits are located and dealt with in a way that keeps them with the mother rather than sealing them in. This lengthens the job and is not optional.

  3. 3

    Removal or one-way exclusion

Method depends on the situation, the season, and Kentucky's regulations for the species. We will explain which applies to yours and why.

  4. 4

    Sealing to raccoon standard

This is not sealant work. A raccoon that wants back into a known den site will pull, chew, and lever at the repair. Entry points are closed with heavy gauge material and structural fixing, not patched.

  5. 5

    Cleanup and repair

Latrine sites decontaminated, soiled insulation removed, and damaged structure repaired. Quoted as its own line.

What it costs

Quoted after inspection. Raccoon jobs vary widely and the variable is usually damage rather than removal — the animal may be out in a day, while the soffit repair and insulation replacement are the bulk of the cost.

If there is a litter, the job takes longer and that is reflected in the quote. We would rather price that honestly at the start than discover it halfway through.

10% military discount applies, always.

Raccoon latrines are worth taking seriously

Raccoons deposit droppings repeatedly in the same spot, and those sites can carry a roundworm whose eggs are hazardous to people, persist in the environment, and are not destroyed by ordinary cleaning products.

This is a genuine reason not to shovel out an attic latrine yourself over a weekend, and not a line we use to sell cleanup. If you would rather handle the cleanup yourself, read up on the precautions properly first — it is the one part of a raccoon job where doing it uninformed carries real risk.

Other wildlife we handle

Common questions

There are babies in my attic — what happens to them?
They are located and handled so that they stay with the mother rather than being sealed in. That is the entire reason we check before doing any exclusion work in spring. It makes the job longer and it is not something to skip.
How much does raccoon removal cost?
Quoted after inspection. The removal itself is often the smaller part — soffit repair, insulation replacement, and latrine decontamination usually drive the total. Those are itemised separately in the quote.
Can I trap it myself?
Kentucky regulates the trapping and relocation of wildlife, and the rules are specific about what may be done with a trapped animal. Beyond the legal side: a trapped adult raccoon is genuinely dangerous to handle, and trapping the mother in spring while leaving kits in your attic is the worst available outcome.
It's in my chimney.
Common, and usually a female that has chosen the smoke shelf as a den. Do not light a fire — that is a reliable way to end up with a panicked raccoon in the living room, or dead animals in the flue. It is handled from above, and a properly fitted chimney cap afterwards prevents any repeat.
How do I stop it happening again?
Exclusion done to the right standard is most of it: heavy gauge material at the entry, a chimney cap, secured roof and gable vents. The rest is removing the attractants — secured bins, no pet food left out overnight, and trimming branches that give roof access.
